Artist Bios

Loud pop trio L.A. RIOTS come on like hard candy: one part sugarshock, one part  danger, totally addictive.  What they do is write catchy songs and play them with  abandon.  L.A. RiotsпїЅ style traces its lineage through the classic music of the past few decades — the Kinks and the Zombies, T. Rex and Big Star, the Attractions and Nick Lowe, the  Jam and the Cure, Pixies and Guided by Voices — but the Riots infuse their music with  a thoroughly contemporary spirit that vaults them above mere reproduction of the  vintage.  Jeff Byron (also of prominent Southern California combos the Mae Shi and the Manifolds) supplies infectious melodies, glam-inflected singing and a unique hard-charging guitar style that recalls the time when Rickenbacker meant rock.  The drumming of Bay Area transplant Robb Kapla slams out L.A. RiotsпїЅ caffeine-jag  heartbeat, frenetic yet airtight and displaying an ear for the adventurous fill or the  perfect pop touch.  The wild card is East Coaster Wayne Lewis, who provides raucous  energy and rough edges with his bratty vocals and booming bass sounds.

Their debut  recording, the Start A Riot E.P., has charmed everyone who has lent it an ear.  The  disk hit the shelves of L.A.пїЅs Amoeba Music in late May as part of the storeпїЅs Home Grown program highlighting local artists, and went on to hit number two on AmoebaпїЅs local independent artist charts.  Leadoff track пїЅBreak OutпїЅ has earned airplay on Indie 103.1 FMпїЅs new music show, пїЅCheck One…Two.пїЅ
